Simuls in Paris by Almira Skripchenko and Naira Agababian
 

WGM Almira Skripchenko
 
In Paris, a company called "Strategical Position" specialized in communication and events in different fields including chess was founded by French Armenian journalists and active chess propagandists Frank Bairamian and Hélène Kosseian, and WGM Almira Skripchenko, Armenian by origin.
 
Their first undertaking is the organization of two simultaneous exhibitions by Almira Skripchenko and her mother, former Champion of Armenia WGM Naira Agababian to be held Friday, 13 January 2006, at 5 rue de Castiglione 75001, in Paris. The simuls will commence at 2:00pm and 4:30pm Paris time.
 
The partners of the event are "Garbis Devar" Big Designer, "Zatik Studio" Fashion, Armenian Chess Federation, French Chess Federation, "Nouvelles d'Armenie" Magazine, Tourist Office of Ukraine, Aigo France specialized in Multimedia and MP3, "Variantes" bookshop, Astrig Fister-Haroutiounian Creative Interior Decorator.

Celebration in honour of the Armenian Chess Team
 

World Cup Holder Levon Aronian and President of Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsian

The celebration in honour of the Armenian National Chess Team took place in the Tigran Petrosian Chess House.

 
The Armenian Team (Aronian, Akopian, Asrian, Vaganian, Lputian, Anastasian, coach Nalbandian) took the third prize at the 6th World Team Chess Championship in Beersheba and was recognized as the best sport team of Armenia in 2006.
 
The government of Republic of Armenia awarded each member of the team with 5.000 USD. During the celebration President of Armenian Chess Federation, Minister of Defense Serzh Sargsian congratulated the Armenian Grandmasters and handed them the awards. Mr. Sargsian also informed that the government had taken a special decree to award World Cup Holder Levon Aronian with additional 5 million Armenian drams (more than 11.000 USD).
 
During the evening Levon Aronian, whom the audience greeted with special warmth, performed with a speech.

Armenian Chess Team is the best in 2006 in Armenia
 
The bronze medal-holder of the World Team Championship in Beersheba, the Armenian National Chess Team was recognized as the best sport team of 2006 in Armenia.

Levon Aronian is the best sportsman of the year!
 
World Chess Cup holder Levon Aronian was announced as the best sportsman of Armenia of 2005. All the 37 journalists who participated in the survey mentioned Aronian the first in their variants. Thus Levon Aronian achieved a fantastic result, 370 points of 370 possible!

Levon Aronian will be training for Wijk aan Zee tournament in Yerevan
 
The holder of World Cup, Armenian chess player GM Levon Aronian returns from Khanty-Mansiysk to his native city Yerevan today on December 19, 2005. In the capital of Armenia, during three weeks Aronian will be training for one of the greatest chess event of 2006, the traditional Corus tournament in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Levon will leave for Wijk aan Zee together with his second, Armenian GM Gabriel Sargissian.
 
The Corus Tournament will be held from January 13 to 29, 2006. Aronian's opponents are such celebrated players as Topalov, Kramnik, Anand, Leko, Ivanchuk, Bacrot, Adams, Gelfand, Tiviakov, I. Sokolov, Kamsky, Karjakin, van Wely.

Altounian's and Matikozian's success
 
Armenian chess players IMs Levon Altounian (USA) and Andranik Matikozian (Armenia) performed successfully at the 41st Annual American Open held November 24-27, 2005, in Los Angeles.They both gained 6 points of 8 and shared the 2nd-7th places with GMs Wojtkiewicz, Yermolinsky, Kreiman and IM Kraai (USA). The tournament winner was IM Mezentsev (Russia) with 6,5 points.
 
88 chess players participated in this main event, and in total 241 players performed at the 41st Annual American Open.
