GM Krikor-Sevag Mekhitarian has scored 3,5 points out of 4 in the main tournament of the open which is being held in Dieren, the Netherlands. Armenian chess player is only half a point behind the leader, GM Farqere with whom he will play in the next round.

GM Karen Movsziszian scored 6,5 points out of 9 and took the 7th place among the 134 participants of the open which was held in Sitges, Spain. Armenian chess player was one point behind the winner, GM Jose Gonzalez Garcia (Mexico).

FIDE has awarded the title of Grandmaster to 24-year-old Armenian chess player Krikor-Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil).

Women's Grandmaster Lilit Galojan has received the title of Men's International Master. On the same day Lilit's brother, Levon Galojan, has been awarded the title of FIDE Master.

Yervand Hakobyan has become a FIDE Arbiter.

Tatev Abrahamyan has fulfilled Women's Grandmaster's norm in the US Women's Championship which was held in Saint Louis. Armenian chess player has also been awarded the "Fighting Spirit Award" by World Women's Champion GM Alexandra Kosteniuk.

FIDE has decided to organize the World Champion's Candidates' Matches in Kazan, Russia in spring, 2011. The eight qualifiers will fight in the knock-out system. 4 games will be played in the quarter-final and semi-final, 6 games - in the final.

The pairings of the first round are as follows:
Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) - Gata Kamsky (USA)
Magnus Carlsen (Norway) - Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan)
Vladimir ssia) - Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan)

In case of victory over Gelfand, Levon Aronian will meet with the winner of the pair Topalov-Kamsky in the semi-final.

Levon Aronian will defend the title of the World Rapid Chess Champion, which he achieved in 2009 in Mainz, Germany, in the open tournament which is to be held in Mainz on the 7th and 8th of August, 2010.

11 rounds will be played in the swiss system tournament which is to have hundreds of chess players, including tens of famous Grandmasters. In each game the participants will have 20 minutes, plus 5 seconds for each move.

Olympic Champion Armenian GM Gabriel Sargissian scored 7 points out of 9 and shared the 1st-6th places with GMs Parligras (Romania), Volkov (Russia), IM Khotenashvili, GMs Krivoruchko and Borovikov (Ukraine) in the open which was held in Rethymno, Greece. Sargissian was awarded the 2nd prize in the tie-break. Parligras was recognized as the best.

IM Mher Hovhanisian scored 6 points.

Levon Aronian and Vladimir Kramnik have shared the 2nd-3rd places with 2340 points each. Sergei Movsesian is the 23rd, World Champion Viswanathan Anand - only the 25th.

Armenian IM Mikael Agopov (Finland) scored 5,5 points out of 9 and took the 27th place among the 114 participants of the "Heart of Finland" which was held in Yuvyaskyulya. The best results had GMs Maxim Turov (Russia), Tomi Nyback and Tommi Luukkonen (Finland) with 7 points each. Turov took the first prize in the tie-break.

On the second day of the Dvorkovich Memorial which is being held in Moscow, Russia, Armenian youth team met with the Russian "Dvorkovich Chess Parlour" team. Armenians first had a draw (2:2) and then a victory with the score of 3:1.

Currently Armenian team is sharing the 2nd-3rd places with the team of Azerbaijan (7 team and 10 individual points). The leader is the team of China which has scored 8 (12,5) points.

GM Andrey Zontakh (Ukraine) scored 8 points out of 9 and won in the "King's Gambit" tournament which was held in Lipetsk, Russia.

Two Armenian chess players took part in the tournament. GM Sergey Kasparov (Belarus) scored 4,5 points and shared the 4th-5th places. IM Gor Airapetian (Russia) scored 4 points and shared the 6th-7th places.

The traditional youth tournament devoted to the memory of International Arbiter Vladimir Dvorkovich has started in Moscow, Russia. Eight teams which represent seven countries (including the team of Armenia) take part in the tournament. Robert Aghasaryan, Karen H. Grigoryan, Hovhannes Gabuzyan and Maria Gevorgyan are included in Armenian team.

On the first day of the tournament Armenian chess players won the representatives of Poland twice with the score of 2,5:1,5 each time.

Currently the leaders are the teams of China and Armenia, which have scored 4 points each (team results). China has got 6, Armenia - 5 points by the sum of individual results.
