In one of the nicest resort towns of Armenia, Tsakhkadzor, preparations have started with participation of five leading Armenian Grandmasters, Levon Aronian, Sergei Movsesian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian.

29-Apr-2010 GM Aronian About Mr. Ilyumzhinov's Interview
 
Connected with FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's interview for the Sport-Express newspaper (April 28, 2010), GM Levon Aronian has announced that he has never agreed and won't ever agree to play the World Champion's qualifiers' matches in Baku.

On this occasion Armenian Chess Federation has sent an official letter to Mr. Ilyumzhinov, FIDE Presidential Board members, Sport-Express newspaper and other famous chess periodicals.

On April 27 President of the Republic of Armenia, President of the Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan met with the members of the national team who are getting ready to the World Chess Olympiad to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

FIDE Presidential Board meeting which was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, awarded the title of Grandmaster to 19-year-old talented Armenian chess player Robert Hovhannisyan.

Young chess player Armen Proudian (Brazil) scored 6 points out of 7 and took the first prize in the tournament which was held in Sao Paulo.

A group of Armenian chess players became the champions of Lebanon in the youth championships of the country.

Girls:
Narod Kelebozian (U8), Arin Tashchian (U10), Qristel Hovsepian (U12), Meghri Kirakosian (U20).

Our several other compatriots took different prize places in various age groups.

27-Apr-2010 Aronian's and Movsesian's Joint Preparations
 
Levon Aronian and Sergei Movsesian, the two Armenian chess players who have the highest ratings among the Armenians of the world, are having joint preparations these days in Yerevan. The famous Armenian Grandmasters are getting prepared to the coming important tournaments.

Aronian and Movsesian, who are also good friends, are having preparations together not for the first time. They had a similar experience in Berlin several weeks ago.

WGMs Lilit Mkrtchian and Elina Danielian are taking part in the Women's Grand Prix 3rd tournament which is being held in Nalchik, Russia from April 26 to May 7, 2010.

Their opponents are Humpy Koneru (India), Hou Yifan, Zhao Xue (China), Pia Cramling (Sweden), Nana Dzagnidze (Georgia), Tatiana Kosintseva, Baira Kovanova (Russia), Zhu Chen (Qatar), Munguntuul Batkhuyag (Mongolia), Betul Yildiz (Turkey).
 
26-Apr-2010 Valentin Panbukchian's Success
 
54-year-old Armenian IM Valentin Panbukchian (Bulgaria) had big success in the open which was held in Malakoff, France. Having four continuous wins in the last rounds, Panbukchian scored 7 points ouf of 9 and shared the 1st-3rd places with GMs Namig Guliyev (Azerbaijan) and Vladimir Malaniuk (Ukraine). Panbukchian was awarded the 3rd prize in the tie-break.

Armenian IM Krikor-Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil) was behind the winners with half a point.

Manouk (Claude) Adamian (France), Armenian famous writer Siamanto's nephew, also played confidently in the tournament. 68-year-old chess player scored 4,5 points.

197 chess players took part in the tournament.

Armenian chess player David Paravyan from Moscow scored 7 points out of 9 and shared the 1st-3rd places in the U12 group of the Russian Youth Championship which was held in Dagomis. David was awarded the bronze medal in the tie-breaks.

The opening ceremony of the Anand-Topalov match was held in Sofia, Bulgaria on April 21st, 2010. FIDE posptoned the first game for one day. It will be held on April 24th. Topalov will play with whites.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has appointed the Armenian Chess Federation Honorary President , FIDE honorary Vice-President Vanik Zakarian as member of the Appeals Committee of the World Chess Olympiad to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in September-October, 2010.

The World Chess Championship is going to take place in Sofia, Bulgaria from April 23 (1st round) to May 12, 2010 (possible tiebreaks). The match is between World Champion Viswanathan Anand and Veselin Topalov.

GMs Hrant Melkumyan and David Arutinian scored 7 points each out of 9 and shared the 1st-8th places with GMs Iturrizaga (Venesuela), Iordachescu (Moldova), Aleksandrov (Belarus), Guseinov (Azerbaijan), Sanikidze (Georgia) and Volkov (Russia) in the tournament which was held in Dubai (UAE). In the tie-break Melkumyan took the 6th, Arutinian - 7th place among the 150 participants. The first prize was awarded to Iturrizaga.

GM Gabriel Sargissian scored 6,5, GM Tigran L. Petrosian, GM Tigran Kotanjian - 5,5, GM Gevorg Harutjunyan - 5 points.

13-Apr-2010 Sergei Movsesian - Champion of Germany
 
Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian became the champion of Germany in the composition of the chess club OSG Baden-Baden.

Movsesian also took the silver medal in the Russian club championship in the composition of the Saint-Petersburg team. Chess club "ShSM-64" became the champion of Russia.

Armenian national team which is getting ready for the Khanty-Mansiysk Olympiad, is having preparations with coach Arshak Petrosian in Yerevan. Members of the national team Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Arman Pashikian, Avetik Grigoryan are taking part in the prepartations. Gabriel Sargissian, who is participating in the Dubai Open these days, will join his friends later.

The trainings will last to the end of April.
