31-Aug-2009 Armenian Chess Players in Thessaloniki
 
David Zakarian scored 6 points out of 9 in the open which was held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Zakarian was one point behind the winner, IM Marcos Llaneza Vega (Spain).

Aghasi Inants finished the tournament with 5 points and added his elo with 30 points.
 

30-Aug-2009 Armenian Women's National Team in the World Championship
 
Armenian women's national team (Elina Danielian, Lilit Mkrtchian, Lilit Galojan, Nelli Aginian, Siranush Andriasian, coach - Arsen Yegiazarian) will take part in the world team championship to be held in Ningbo, China from 1 to 12 September.

National teams of China (1st and 2nd), Georgia, India, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, USA, Vietnam will also take part in the championship.

GM Gevorg Harutjunyan, scoring 6 points out of 7, took the first prize in the rapid chess tournament which was held in the "Armen" chess club in Isfahan, Iran.

43 chess players took part in the tournament.

Armenian WGM Evgenija Dolukhanova (Ukraine) has scored 2 points out of 2 and is one of the leaders in the Rudenko Memorial which is being held in St. Petersburg (Russia).

27-Aug-2009 Hrair Simonian Won in the Abu Dhabi Rapid
 
Hrair Simonian had great success in the rapid tournament which was held within the bounds of Abu Dhabi chess festival (UAE). Scoring 7 points out of 9, he took the first prize.

Hrant Melkumyan shared the 3rd-4th places with 6,5 points. Zaven Andriasian scored 5 points.

Aghasi Inants has scored 4 points out of 6 in the open which is being held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The leader is GM Arun Prasad (India) with 5,5 points.
 
25-Aug-2009 Zaven Andriasian Won in the Abu Dhabi Blitz
 
Zaven Andriasian took the first prize with a brilliant result (8,5 points out of 9) in the blitz tournament which was held within the bounds of Abu Dhabi festival (UAE). Zaven was with 1,5 points ahead of the nearest opponents, GMs Yuri Drozdovkij (Ukraine) and Hrant Melkumyan. 52 chess players took part in the tournament.

After that rapid chess tournament started in Abu Dhabi. GM Hrair Simonian has scored 4 points out of 5 and is sharing the 1st-3rd places with GMs Zurab Sturua (Georgia) and Bassem Amin (Egypt). GM Hrant Melkumyan has scored 3,5, Andriasian - 3 points. 31 chess players are taking part in the tournament.
 

25-Aug-2009 Armenian Chess Players in Olomouts
 
David Arutinian (Georgia), scoring 6 points out of 9, took the first prize in the grandmaster's round-robin tournament which was held in Olomouts (Czech Republic). Vigen Mirumian (Czech Republic) took the 3rd place with 6 points in the other grandmaster's tournament. Vigen was half a point behind the winner, Konstantin Maslak (Russia).

Levon Aronian has scored totally 500 points after the 5th tournament of the Grand Prix series which was held in Jermuk and has become unreachable for all the opponents, regardless of the last, 6th tournament.

Armenian GM David Arutinian (Georgia) scored 7,5 points out of 9 and took the second place among the 372 participants of the 16th Open which was held in Vienna, Austria. David was half a point behind the winner, GM Samy Shoker (Egypt).

FM Vrezh Ordian (Armenia) took the 42th place with 6 points.

Armenian young chess player Aghasi Inants has begun successfully the 6th Kalamaria open which is being held in Thessaloniki, Greece. Aghasi has scored 2,5 points out of 3 and is only half a point behind the leaders.

GMs Ashot Anastasian, Zaven Andriasian, Hrant Melkumyan scored 7 points each out of 9 and shared the 2nd-6th places with GMs Aleksandr Rakhmanov (Russia) and Stanislav Savchenko (Ukraine) in the 18th Open which was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Anastasian was the 3rd, Andriasian - the 4th, Melkumyan - the 6th on the tie-break. They were all half a point behind the winner, GM Aleksej Aleksandrov (Belarus). GM Hrair Simonian and WGM Lilit Galojan scored 6 points each and took the 18th and 23th places respectively.

One of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix tournaments will also be held in Armenia, in 2010. FIDE and Armenian Chess Federation made an agreement upon it. The representative of Armenia, as the organizing country, will be WGM Lilit Mkrtchian. We remind that Armenian WGM Elina Danielian also takes part in the Grand Prix, as the chess player nominated by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The 5th FIDE Grand Prix tournament (Tigran Petrosian memorial) is being held in Jermuk, Armenia. The participants of the Jermuk tournament are GMs Levon Aronian, Dmitry Jakovenko, Peter Leko, Boris Gelfand, Etienne Bacrot, Sergey Karjakin, Gata Kamsky, Pavel Eljanov, Evgeny Alekseev, Vladimir Akopian, Vassily Ivanchuk, Ivan Cheparinov, Ernesto Inarkiev, Rustam Kasimdzhanov.

During the period of the FIDE Grand Prix "Chess in Armenia" magazine publishes special issues (every other day) devoted to the Jermuk tournament. In parallel to the Grand Prix other important events of the chess life will find place in those issues.

9-Aug-2009 Hrant Melkumyan's Success
 
Armenian young grandmaster Hrant Melkumyan had great success in the big open which was held in Kavala, Greece. Melkumyan shared the 1st-2nd places with GMs David (Luxembourg), Sandipan, Gupta (India), Nevednichi (Roumania), Volkov (Russia) and Mamedov (Azerbaijan), scoring 7 points out of 9. Melkumyan took the 4-rd place by tie-break. David is the first.

Zaven Andriasian scored 6, Elina Danielian - 5,5, Nelly Aghinian - 4,5 points.

160 chess players took part in the tournament.

8-Aug-2009 Levon Aronian in "Grand Slam" Final!
 
Armenian GM Levon Aronian will take part in the final tournament of the "Grand Slam" which will be held in Bilbao, Spain from 6 to 12 September, 2009.His opponents will be Alexander Grischuk, Sergey Karjakin, Alexei Shirov.

According to the organizers of the "Grand Slam", Aronian is playing instead of Veselin Topalov.

7-Aug-2009 Armenian Chess Players in Kavala Tournament
 
Armenian GMs Zaven Andriasian and Hrant Melkumyan have scored 5,5 points each after the 7 rounds in the open tournament which is being held in Kavala, Greece. They are only half a point behind the leaders - GMs Alberto David (Luxembourg) and Chanda Sandipan (India).

Nelly Aghinian has scored 4, Elina Danielian - 3,5 points.

160 chess players are taking part in the tournament.

3-Aug-2009 Levon Aronian - World Champion of Rapid Chess!
 

Armenian GM Levon Aronian took the title of the World Champion of Rapid Chess in the festival which was held in Mainz, Germany.

Olympic champion GM Levon Aronian takes part in the Rapid World Championship with the current World Champion Anand, GM Naiditsch, GM Nepomniachtchi.

Aronian also participates in the Chess 960 World Championship with GMs Movsesian, Nakamura, Bologan.

Olympic champions GM Vladimir Akopian, GM Gabriel Sargissian, as well as several other Armenian chess players play in the Ordix Open 2009. GMs Grishcuk, Bacrot, Gashimov, Kamsky, Mamdeyarov, Nakamura, Navara, Bologan are among their main opponents.
