30-Jun-2009 Valentin Panbukchian's Success
 
Armenian IM Valentin Panbukchian (Bulgaria) scored 7 points out of 9 and shared the 2nd-3rd places with GM Azer Mirzoev (Azerbaijan) in the open which was held in Varna. Panbukchian was only half a point behind the winner GM Dmitri Komarov (Ukraine).

54 chess players participated in the tournament.

GMs Arman Pashikian and David Arutinian had the best results among the Armenian chess players in the international tournament which was held in Tbilisi.They scored 6,5 points each out of 9 and took the 11th and 13th places respectively among 208 participants.

Georgian grandmaster Bahadur Jobava took the first place with 8 points.

The rapid match between the national teams of France and Armenia with the support of "Armavia" company will be held in Paris on 24-25 June, 2009. The members of the Olympic champion Armenian team are Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian. The composition of the French team is as follows: Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Laurent Fressinet, Joel Lautier, Christian Bauer.

Petrosian, Maia Chiburdanidze, Elina Danielian, Lilit Mkrtchian and other famous grandmasters have played from "Mika".

On June 17, 2009 the President of the Republic of Armenia, the president of the Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsyan laid flowers at the memorial of the great chess player, World Chess Champion Tigran Petrosian who would turn eighty on June 17. The prime minister of the Republic of Armenia, the vice-president of the Armenian Chess Federation Tigran Sargsyan, chess players, chess lovers also respected the memory of the World's 9th Champion.

GM Sergei Movsesian scored 8 points out of 9 and solely took the first prize in the rapid tournament which was held in Hustopece, Czech Republic.

146 chess players, including 20 grandmasters, participated from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia and Serbia.

GM Melikset Khachiyan (USA) and IM Andranik Matikozian (Armenia) scored 4,5 points each out of 6 and shared the 1st-4th places with Enrico Sevillano and Gohn Daniel Bryant (USA) in the Lina Grumette Memorial.

In this women's event which will be by Swiss System and have 9 rounds the opponents of Armenians will be chess players from Georgia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Romania.

Rapid match between the national teams of France and Armenia will be held in Paris on 24-25 June, 2009. The members of the Olympic champion Armenian team are Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Gabriel Sargissian, Tigran L. Petrosian and Artashes Minasian. The composition of the French team is as follows: Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Laurent Fressinet, Joel Lautier, Christian Bauer.

The organizer of the match is French company Modd' Ailleurs (responsible: Vartan Kaprielian) together with Chess Federations of Armenia and France.

Armenian FM Movses Movsisyan (USA) scored 5 points out of 7 and took the 7th place among 77 participants in the open which was held in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

GM Sergey Kudrin (USA) took the first prize with 6,5 points.

Armenian WGM Evgeniya Doluhanova scored 7,5 points out of 9 and became the women's champion of Ukraine, 2009 in the tournament which was held in Yevpatoria.

WGM Diana Arutyunova and WIM Ludmila Aslanian scored 5,5 points each and took the 7th and 9th places respectively among 41 chess players.

Armenian young chess players had great success in the youth championship of Lebanon which was held in Beirut. Razmik Ognaian (B18), Zhirayr Ognaian (B20), Qristel Hovsepian (G10), Meghri Kirakosian (G18) became champions, Hrak Glpozian (B12) and Narek Najarian (B14) took the second, Karen Khaloian (B8), Karo Khavlujian (B12) and Hovsep Najarian (B16) - the third places.
