GM Gabriel Sargissian (Armenia) scored 5,5 points out of 7 and shared the 1-2 places with GM Jaan Ehlvest (USA). Ehlvest won Sargissian in the Blitz Armageddon play-off.

GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) was behind the winners with half a point and took the 5th place. GM Tigran L. Petrosian (Armenia) was the 9th with 4,5 points.

None of the three Armenian grandmasters lost a game.

Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian will take part in the 3rd ACP World Rapid Cup to be held in Odessa, Ukraine, from 22 to 24 May, 2009.

As usual, it will be a KO tournament with 16 participants. There will be two-game matches at all stages, prior to the final. In the final, four games will be played. Movsesian's opponents will be GMs Jakovenko, Grischuk, Gelfand, Gashimov, Bacrot, Svidler, Naiditsch, Eljanov, Moiseenko, Efimenko, Najer, Karpov, Tregubov, Gurevich, Drozdovskij.

Armenia will participate in the World Women's Team Championship to be held in Ningbo, China, from 1 to 12 September, 2009. This information was published by the FIDE Secretariat (Athens). The other participants of the World championship will be Georgia, Ukraine, USA, Russia, Poland, China, as well as the continental champions of Asia, America and Africa.

Armenian GMs Varuzhan Akobian and Melikset Khachiyan take part in the U.S. championship which is being held in Saint Louis, Missouri, from 9 to 18 May, 2009. GMs Gata Kamsky, Boris Gulko, Jaan Ehlvest, Hikaru Nakamura, Yuri Shulman, Larry Christiansen, Alexander Onischuk, Alexander Shabalov, Gregory Kaidanov are also among the participants.

Altogether 24 chess players take part in the event.

Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) takes part in the 39th International Chess Supertournament "Bosna 2009" in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 8 to 18 May, 2009. His opponents are Hao Wang (China), Pavel Eljanov (Ukraine), Pentala Harikrishna (India), Ivan Sokolov, Borki Predojevic (Bosnia and Herzegovina). The chess players will play with each other two times.

5-May-2009 Kotanjian Won the Sheikh Cup
 
Armenian GMs Tigran Kotanjian and Ashot Anastasian had great success in the big open which was held in Dubai, UAE. They, as well as the Russian grandmaster Dmitri Bocharov, scored 7 points each out of 9. Kotanjian took the first place and the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup with tie-break. Bocharov took the second, Anastasian - the third place.

Armenian GM Tigran Kotanjian scored 6,5 points out of 8 and before the last round is the leader in the open which is held in Dubai, UAE. GM Dmitry Bocharov (Russia) has also got 6,5 points. GM Ashot Anastasian and other five chess players scored 6 points each.

The winner of the Dubai Open will be decided in the last round in the games Kotanjian-Maletin (Russia) and Guseinov (Azerbaijan)-Bocharov.

Armenian GM Giorgi Bagaturov scored 7 points out of 9 and took the first prize in the open which was held in Theassaloniki, Greece.

45 chess players took part in the tournament.

Armenian chess players Ashot Anastasian and Tigran Kotanjian scored 4, Hrant Melkumyan - 3,5, David Arutinian, Suren Poghosian - 3, Aghasi Inants, Vardan Khojayan - 2,5 points each after the 5 rounds of the Dubai Open.
