The first event of the FIDE Women Grand Prix tournaments starts on March 5, 2009 in Istanbul, Turkey. Armenian WGM Elina Danielian will also participate in the Grand Prix. Danielian has been nominated by FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

In Istanbul Elina's opponents will be GM Koneru (India), GM Hou Yifan (China), GM Stefanova (Bulgaria), GM Cramling (Sweden), GM Sebag (France), GM Chiburdanidze (Georgia), GM Zhao Xue (China), GM Zhu Chen (Qatar), WGM Shen Yang (China), WGM Z. Mamedjarova (Azerbaijan), WIM Yildiz (Turkey).
