Karen Movsziszian shared 1st place in La Pobla de Lillet

 
Armenian GM Karen Movsziszian gained 7,5 points of 9 and shared the 1st-2nd places with GM Viktor Moskalenko (Ukraine) at the 15th Open La Pobla de Lillet, Spain. Movsziszian raised his rating with 12 points.
 
88 chess players participate in the tournament.

"Blue Sevan" Chess Tournament

 
The "Blue Sevan" International Chess Tournament ended in the city of Sevan, Armenia. The event was organized by the Chess Academy directed by GM Smbat Lputian. Ten chess players representing Armenia, Georgia, Iran and Russia participated in the tournament.
 
The results of the tournament are:

Levon Aronian's great achievements

 
Armenian GM Levon Aronian performed perfectly at the Spanish Team Championship held in Merida. Leading the C.A. Magic Merida club, he beat GM Bologan, GM Macieja, and drew with GM I. Sokolov and GM Gelfand.

Before that Aronian played excellently at the Meinz festival in Germany. He took the first place in the FiNet Chess960 (Fischer Chess) thanks to which Aronian was entitled to hold a match with Svilder for Chess960 World Champion title.

Armenian chess players at the American Continental Championship

 
Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) performed successfully at the American Continental Championship held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Akobian gained 7,5 points of 11 and shared the 9th-16th places in the tournament where 152 chess players took part. Akobian was short of only half a point to be entitled for the World Cup.

Young Armenian chess player Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil) had several sensational victories. He beat GMs Arencibia, Vera (Cuba), Gonzalez Zamora (Mexico). After five rounds Mekhitarian was among the leaders. Finally he yielded his tournament position, however raising his rating with 20 points.

Sergey Grigoriants won in the Abu Dhabi blitz tournament

 
Armenian GM Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) took the first prize in the blitz tournament of the 15th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival. He beat Safarli (Azerbaijan), GM Aleksandrov (Belarus), GM Potkin (Russia), GM Chernyshov (Russia), GM Kurnosov (Russia) in the knock-out system competition.
 
32 chess players participated in the tournament.

Ashot Anastasian's brilliant victory in Abu Dhabi

 
The 15th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival ended with the cogent victory of Armenian Champion GM Ashot Anastasian. In the main competition (Master Tournament) of the festival Anastasian had no loss, gained 7 points of 9 possible and clearly took the first prize.
 
Anastasian beat five competitors, including grandmasters Guseinov (Azerbaijan), Ghaem Maghami (Iran), Aleksandrov (Belarus).
 
66 chess players, including 26 GMs, participated in the tournament.

Naira Movsisian fulfilled a Grandmaster norm

 
Armenian chess player WIM Naira Movsisian has fulfilled a Women Grandmaster norm twice, at the "Admiral Kuznetsov-100" and "Vladivostok Winter - 2005" tournaments. The young chess player has played all the necessary 28 games in the two tournaments and now waits for FIDE's confirmation.

Armen Tonoian's success in Nice

 
Armenian chess players FM Armen Tonoian (Russia) played very successfully in the Nice Open, France. Tonoian gained 5,5 points of 7 possible and stayed behind the winners GM Vladislav Tkachiev and IM Aurelien Dunis (France) only with half a point.
 
Another Armenian player Pavel Govciyan (France) performed well, too, gaining 5 points.
 
159 chess players participated in the tournament.

Igor Divljan at the Guelph Tournament

 
Armenian chess player FM Igor Divljan performed well at the Guelph International Tournament in Canada. Divljan gained 5,5 points of 9 possible and shared the 7th-11th places.
 
The winner was GM Sergei Shipov (Russia) with 6,5 points.
 
35 chess players took part in the tournament.

Vahagn Voskanyan shared the first place in Quebec

 
Armenian chess player FM Vahagn Voskanyan shared the first place at the 58th Open Championship, Quebec, Canada. Voskanyan gained 6,5 points of 9 possible.
 
45 chess players were participating in the event.

Varuzhan Akobian took the first prize in Alajuela

 
Armenian chess player GM Varuzhan Akobian won the first prize at the International Chess Tournament held in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Akobian gained 8 points of 9 possible.
 
Akobian was ahead of GMs Mikhalevski, Delgado, Zapata, in particular.
 
177 chess players participated in the tournament.

Andranik Matikozian - Champion of Southern California

 
Armenian chess player IM Andranik Matikozian won the title of Champion of Southern California at the tournament held in Century City, CA, USA. Matikozian gained 5 points of 7 possible.
 
IM Cyrus Lakdawala and another Armenian chess player IM Melikset Kachiyan ended the tournament with the same result and took the 2nd and 3rd places accordingly.
