30-Dec-2008 Gabriel Sargissian's game top of the month!
 
Gabriel Sargissian's excellent game against Alexander Grischuk at the Dresden Olympiad was known as the best one in November. It was decided by the Jury of Grandmasters at the www.chesspro.ru website.

Another Armenian GM, Vladimir Akopian, takes the 3rd place in this poll for the game against Maxim Vashie-Lagrav. This beautiful game also took place at Dresden Olympiad.
 
30-Dec-2008 Armenian Grandmasters in Asian Club Championship
 
In the 5th round of the Asian Club Championship the Al Ain Chess Club A (UAE) beat the Qi Yuan Club (China) 2,5:1,5. GM Gabriel Sargissian played to draw with GM Wen Yang.

The Fajr Shams Chess Club (Iran) won Vietnam Victory Club 3,5:0,5. GM Tigran L. Petrosian beat GM Nguyen Anh Dung and GM Arman Pashikian won the game with CM Nguyen Van Huy.

After 5 rounds Al Ain is leading with 10 points. The Fajr Shams shares 2-6th places with 8 points.

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian, Tigran L. Petrosian and Arman Pashikian participate in the Asian Club Championship held in Al Ain, UAE. After four rounds the leaders are the Al Ain Chess Club A (UAE) and the Qi Yuan Club (China) with 8 points. Seven club scored 6 points, including the Fajr Shams Chess Club (Iran).

Champions of the Dresden Olympiad Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian will participate in the Asian Club Championship to be held from December 21 to 29, 2009, in Al Ain, UAE. Sargissian will play for the Al Ain Chess Club, and Petrosian for the Iranian "Shining Stars" club. GM Arman Pashikian is in the composition of the "Shining Starts", too.

GM Vladimir Akopian will participate in the FIDE Grand Prix tournament to be held from December 14 to 29, 2008, in Elista, Russia. Akopian's opponents will be GMs Leko (Hungary), Jakovenko, Grischuk, Inarkiev, Alekseev (Russia), Mamedyarov, Radjabov, Gashimov (Azerbaijan), Cheparinov (Bulgaria), Bacrot (France), Wang Yue (China), Kasimdzhanov (Uzbekistan), Eljanov (Ukraine).

Akopian will participate in the Grand Prix tournaments as nominee of the Armenian Chess Federation. One of the Grand Prix cycle events will supposedly be held from August 8 to 24, 2009, in Yerevan, Armenia.

Levon Aronian (Armenia) and Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) will participate in a super GM tournament to be held from December 10 to 22, 2008, in Nanjing, China. This will be a six-player double round robin event, in which Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), Peter Svilder (Russia) and Bu Xiangzhi (China) will also participate.

Armenian IM Ashot Nadanian scored 6 points of 9 and took the 7th place in the open held in Seoul, South Korea. He was only half a point behind the winners, Yang Kaiqi (China), IM Sitanggang (Indonesia), GM Ehlvest (USA), GM Adianto (Indonesia), IM Li Wenliang (China).

A chess club called "NTN" (Nona, Tigran, Nana), named in honor of three world famous chess players, Gaprindashvili, Petrosian, Alexandria, functions in Tbilisi, Georgia. The club organizes annual Tigran Petrosian memorials.

53 chess players participated in this year's event. Armenian GM Giorgi Bagaturov took the first prize with 6 points of 7.

Armenian IM Ashot Nadanian scored 5 points of 7 in the open held in Seoul, South Korea. He is only half a point behind the leaders, GM Filippov (Uzbekistan), Yang Kaiqi (China), IM Sitanggang (Indonesia).

Two rounds are ahead before the end of the tournament.

Armenian IM Ashot Nadanian participates in the 1st open held in Seoul, South Korea. Among the 47 participants are, in particular, GMs Ehlvest (USA), Adianto (Indonesia), Filippov (Uzbekistan), Kim (South Korea).

After five 5 rounds IM Sadorra (Philippines) is leading with 4,5 points.

Nadanian, who beat GM Adianto in the second round, has now 3,5 points.
