28-Nov-2008 The India - Armenia U21 Match
 
The India - Armenia match between U21 chess teams will be held from November 30 to December 2, 2008, in New Delhi, India. The match will be played on four boards, and the teams will encounter three times. The match will be held according to the World Chess Olympiad regulations: the winning team will get 2 points, the losing team zero point and in case of a draw 1 point each. The winner will be determined according to the results of three matches.

Here are the compositions of the teams:
India: GM Abhijit Gupta, IM Arun Prasad, IM Deep Sen Gupta, IM G. Rohit, IM B. Adhiban (reserve).
Armenia: GM Andriasian Zaven, GM Grigoryan Avetik, GM Melkumyan Hrant, FM Ter-Sahakyan Samvel.

 
28-Nov-2008 New Titles to Armenian Chess Players
 
The FIDE Congress in Dresden awarded Grandmaster titles to two Armenian chess players, Hrant Melkumyan and 15 year-old Samvel Ter-Sahakyan (conditional). Ter-Sahakyan's title will come into force after his official Elo reaches 2500.

The twice Olympic champion Armenian Team arrived in Yerevan from Dresden by the airplane of President of Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

The Olympic Champions were honored at the huge hall of the Yerevan Sport Complex. The President of Republic of Armenia personally awarded the players high governmental rewards.

5-Nov-2008 Babujian Achieved a Grandmaster Norm
 
In the Vasylyshin Memorial in Lvov, Ukraine, where IM Levon Babujian shared the 2nd-3rd places, he also achieved a GM norm. This was the second similar success of the young Armenian. For the first time he achieved his GM norm earlier this year in Urmia, Iran.

Vladimir Akopian and Gabriel Sargissian gained silver medals in the composition of the Linex-Magic club at the Spanish Chess Championship. In the final match Linex-Magic (Shirov, Adams, Ponomariov, Akopian, Sargissian, Perez Candelario) drew Cajacanarias (Ivanchuk, Alekseev, Motylev, Bareev, Illescas, San Segundo), and Cajanarias took the champion title thanks to wins on the higher boards.
