World Women's Championship in Nalchik |

WGM Lilit Mkrtchian (Armenia) again drew WGM Eva Moser (Austria) in the second game of the first round in the World Women's Chess Championship in Nalchik, Russia. Thus the main part of the Mkrtchian - Moser match ended 1:1. On August 31, Mkrtchian and Moser will meet for additional rapid and, if needed, blitz games. The winner of this match will continue the struggle in the second round where she will encounter WFM Anna Gasik (Poland).
WGM Katerina Rohonyan (USA) lost to WGM Natalia Zhukova (Ukraine). The match ended 1:1. On August 31, Rohonyan and Zhukova will meet for additional games. The winner of this match will continue the struggle in the second round where she will encounter WGM Inna Gaponenko (Ukraine).

Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) has scored 12,5 points of 18 and shared the 1st-2nd places with Grischuk (Russia) in the semi-final of the Tal Blitz Cup in Moscow, Russia.
Gabriel Sargissian finished the 12th with 11 points, and Tigran L. Petrosian took the 14th place with 10,5 points. Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) scored 7 points.
Movsesian, Grischuk, as well as Karjakin, Eljanov (Ukraine) and Grachev (Russia) are now entitled to participate in the final held on August 29 and 30, 2008. The world's top Grandmasters perform here, too. In total 18 players play.

60 Grandmasters participate in the semi-final of the Tal Blitz Cup held in Moscow, Russia. Five winners of the tournament will have the right to take part in the final.
On the first day of the event eight rounds were played. Now Tigran L. Petrosian has 4 points and is the 32nd. Gabriel Sargissian is on the 34th place with 3,5 points. Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) has scored 5 points and is the 11th. Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) has 2,5 points.
The leader is Andrei Volokitin (Ukraine) with 6,5 points.
On August 28, the final day of the semi-final, ten more rounds will be held.

The Armenian team beat England 4:0 in the 7th round of the World U16 Chess Olympiad held in Mersin, Turkey.
Up to now young Armenian chess players have beat the teams of Turkey-Isek (4:0), Greece (3,5:0,5), Turkey-A (3:1), India (3:0), drawn with Philippines (2:2) and lost to Russia (0:4).
Now the Armenian team has 19,5 points of 28 and shares the 1st-2nd places with India. The Philippines has 19, Russia 18,5, Azerbaijan 18, Turkey-A 17,5, Georgia 16 points.
In total 26 teams participate. Two rounds are left before the end of the tournament.
The central matched of the 8th round are: Azerbaijan - Armenia, Turkey-A - India, England - Philippines, Russia - Sri Lanka.
