Samvel Ter-Sahakian - bronze prize-holder of World Championship 2005

 
       
Armenian chess player Samvel Ter-Sahakian took the bronze medal at the World Youth Chess Championship 2005 in Belfort, France. Samvel shared 1st-4th places in the group of boys under 12 and according to additional terms was announced the third.
 
In 2003 Ter-Sahakian became European Champion under 10, in 2004 silver medal-holder at the European Championship under 12.

Knarik Mouradian - Men's Champion of Lebanon 2005

 
       
22 year-old Armenian chess player, Women International Master Knarik Mouradian won the title of Men's Champion in Lebanon. At the championship held in Beirut she gained 9,5 points of 11. Mouradian won eight games, drew three and had no loss.
 
Up to now Knarik has become Women's Champion of Lebanon for six times. Knarik's sister Susan has gained this title for four times.

Movsesian - Navara blitz match

 

Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) held a blitz match with David Navara (Czech Republic) in Prague. First eight games were at 5 minutes per side, last four at 3 minutes per side. The match was drawn at 6:6.

Giorgi Bagaturov shared 1st place in Ghent

 
At the 28th Ghent Open held in Belgium Armenian GM Giorgi Bagaturov (Georgia) gained 7,5 points of 9 and shared the 1st-6th places with GM Ward (England), GM Ikonnikov (Russia), IM Van Haastert (Netherlands), IM Michiels (Belgium), IM Seger (Germany).

392 players were participating in the tournament.

Vladimir Akopian shared the 2nd place in Amsterdam

 
Vladimir Akopian gained 6,5 points of 9 and shared the second place with Rogers, Timofeev, Chparinov, Stellwagen, Khenkin, l'Ami in the open tournament held in Amsterdam.
 
The first prize went to Eljanov with 7 points.

Taiyuan Tournament

 

The tournament ended with Pentala Harikrishna's (India) victory who had 8,5 points of 11.

 

Tigran L. Petrosian shared the 6th-7th places with 5,5 points.

Minsk Tournament

 

The tournament ended with Aleksandrov's victory who had 7,5 points of 9.

 

Elina Danielian had 6, David Khachykian 4,5 points.

Karen Asrian at the Greek Team Championship

 
Armenian GM Karen Asrian performed well in the composition of the "Koridalos" club at the Greek Team Championship held in Armioni.
 
Asrian beat GMs Chuchelov and Voldis and drew in seven games. Karen took the second place on the first board. The first place-holder was Andrei Sokolov (France) whose team "Kavala" became Champion of Greece.

Varuzhan Akobian's good performance at the World Open

 
Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian gained 7 points of 9 possible and shared the 3rd-6th places among 200 participants at the 33rd World Open in Philadelphia (USA).
 
The first prize went to Kamil Miton (Poland) with 7,5 points.

Davit Khachikian - champion of Belarus

 
11 years old Armenian chess player Davit Khachikian became Champion of Belarus at Under 12 Rapid Championship in Minsk.
 
Earlier this year Khachikian took the second place in the Belarus Under 14 Classic Chess Championship and is now entitled to participate in the European Youth Championship in Serbia & Montenegro in September.
 
In 2004, Davit was Champion of Belarus under 10 at the rapid championship.

Armenian Team - silver medal-holder of the Lebanon Championship

 
The Armenian Club "Homenendmen" (Antilias) took the second place at the Lebanon Team Championship in Beirut. The leader of the team was IM Tigran Kotanjian (Armenia). The other members of the team were Armenian chess players from Beirut, Knarik, Susan and Khachik Mouradians, Gevork Kostanian, Raffi Jigirian, Dr. Gevork Terzian, Vahagn Manjian.

Tigran L. Petrosian in a China tournament

 
Armenian GM Tigran L. Petrosian left for China to participate in a great tournament to commence to day in the city of Taiyuan.
 
The other participants of the event are: Motylev (Russia), Karjakin (Urkaine), McShane (England), Harikrishna (India), Bu Xiandzhi, Ni Hua, Zhang Pengxiang, Zhang Zhong, Wang Yue, Wang Hao, Zhao Xue (China).

First prize of Sevag Mekhitarian

 
Armenian chess player Sevag Mekhitarian took the first place with 5,5 points of 6 possible in the rapid tournament held Sao Paulo.
 
This was the second victory of Mekhitarian in similar tournaments.

The Elista FIDE Office announces publication of the 1st July 2005 FIDE Rating List effective 1st July to 30th September.

Levon Aronian - bronze medal holder of the European Championship

 

Armenian chess player Levon Aronian took the third place and won the bronze medal at the European Individual Chess Championship 2005 held in Warsaw, Poland. We remind that Aronian was the third place-holder at the European Championship 2004, as well.

Karen Asrian performed very successfully in Warsaw, too, taking the 7th place.

According to the results of the European Championship, Artashes Minasian and Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) gained permits for the World Cup 2005.

Aronian and Asrian are entitled to participate in the World Cup according to the results of the European Championship of the last year. Another Armenian Grandmaster Vladimir Akopian has the permit for the World Cup thanks to his high Elo.

Nelli Alexanian is an International Master

 

FIDE has awarded Armenian chess player Nelli Alexanian (Russia) with a Woman International Master title.

Alexanian received the title for her successful performance at the European Individual Women’s Championship 2005 held in Chisinau, Moldova.

In the Syria School Championship held in Aleppo Armenian chess player Patil Toutounjian with 3,5 points out of 5 possible took the third place.

Beniamin Galstian and Zaven Andriasian are International Masters

 
FIDE awarded young Armenian chess players Beniamin Galstian and Zaven Andriasian with International Master titles.
