Armenian chess players GMs Arman Pashikian, Davit Arutinian (Georgia), IM Georgi Arzumanian as well as David Kalashian have 2 points of 2 each and are among the leaders in the 6th International Tournament, held in Istanbul, Turkey.

IM Levon Babujian has 1,5, Aghasi Inants, Armen Grigoriev (Georgia) and Harutun Hagop Kebabciyan (Turkey) 1 points.

GMs Viswanathan Anand (India) and Levon Aronian (Armenia) held the Final Match for World Rapid Champion Title in Mainz, Germany.

Anand had a victory with score 2,5:1.5 and won the main prize.

Armenian GM Tigran L. Petrosian gained 9 points of 11 and took the 4th place in Ordix Open Rapid Tournament, held in the frames of Mainz Festival. Petrosian stayed behind the winner GM David Navara (Czech Republic) only with 0,5 point.

GMs Gabriel Sargissian, Vladimir Akopian gained 8, Rafael Vaganian 7,5 points.

20-Aug-2007 Hrant Melkumyan's Victory in ICC Tournament
 
Armenian young IM Hrant Melkumyan won the 1st prize in Internet Tournament organized by the famous ICC website. 1838 chess players took part in the tournament.

Two Armenian chess players defeated two Azerbaijanian grandmasters in semi-finals. Gabriel Sargissian and Hrant Melkumyan won Gadir Guseinov and Rauf Mamedov.

Melkumyan had a victory over Sargissian in the Final Match.

Hrant Melkumyan got the right to fly to Mexico city during the World Chess Championship on ICC grant.

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian gained 8,5, Tigran L. Petrosian and Vladimir Akopian 8 each, Rafael Vaganian 7,5 and Sergey Galdunts 5,5 points of 11 in Chess960 FiNet Open held in the frames of Mainz Festival. GM Victor Bologan (Moldova) with 9,5 points.

Armenian grandmasters will take part in Ordix Open on August 18-19 in Mainz.

Armenian GMs Ashot Anastasian and Karen Asrian had victories over GM Bassem Amin (Egypt) and GM Alojzije Jankovic in the 6th round of 17th Open, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Now Anastasian has 5 points and shares 1-3rd places with GM Amin and IM Morteza Mahjoob (Iran). Asrian has 4,5.

The central games of the 7th round are Mahjoob - Anastasian and Amin - Asrian.
 

17-Aug-2007 Levon Aronian - Chess960 World Champion
 
Armenian GM Levon Aronian became Chess960 World Champion for the second time. Aronian had a victory over GM Viswanathan Anand (India) with score 3,5:2,5 in the Final Match of the Championship held in Mainz, Germany. The main four games of the match ended in score 2:2. In additional, blitz games Armenian grandmaster won with score 1,5:0,5.

Aronian became Chess960 World Champion for the first time in 2006 having victory over GM Peter Svidler (Russia).

On August 17-19 Levon Aronian, Viswanathan Anand, Rustam Kasimdzhanov (Uzbekistan) and Etienne Bacrot (France) will take part in World Rapid Championship, which will also be held in Mainz.

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian has 4,5, Tigran L. The leaders are GMs Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan), Gata Kamsky (USA) and Zoltan Almasi (Hungary) with 5 points each.

Now Anastasian has 4 points and stays behind GM Bassem Amin (Egypt) with one point. Asrian has 3,5, Mouradian 2,5 points.

FIDE publishes the initial list of qualifiers for the World Cup 2007. Armenian GMs Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Zaven Andriasian as well as Varuzhan Akobian (USA) have got the right to participate in World Cup, held in November-December, 2007 in Khanty-Mansyisk, Russia.
