Varuzhan Akobian in the World Cup
 
Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) got the right to participate in the World Cup, which will be held on November-December, 2007 in Khanty-Mansyisk, Russia. Akobian gained 8 points of 11 and shared the 1-4th places with GMs Granda Zuniga (Peru), A. Ivanov (USA) and Lima (Brazil) in American Continental Championship, held in Cali, Colombia.

Another Armenian chess player IM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil) gained 6,5 points.

116 chess players took part in the tournament.

Katerina Rohonyan in the World Championship
 
Armenian WGM Katerina Rohonyan (USA) got the right to participate in the World Women's Championship, 2008. Rohonyan gained 6,5 points of 9 and shared the 2-3rd places with WGM Anna Zatonskih in the USA Women's Championship, held in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Rohonyan stayed behind the champion WGM Irina Krush only with 0,5 point.

3 of the 10 participants of the Championship were Armenians. Besides Rohonyan they were WFM Tatev Abrahamyan and WFM Chouchanik Airapetian.

Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) is one of the leaders in American Continental Championship, held in Cali, Colombia. Akobian has 7,5 points of 10 and before the last round he shares the 1-4th places with GMs Granda Zuniga (Peru), A. Ivanov (USA) and Lima (Brazil).

Another Armenian chess player IM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil) has 6,5 points.

116 chess players take part in the tournament.

The seven winners of the tournament will get the right to participate in the World Cup, which will be held on November-December, 2007 in Khanty-Mansyisk, Russia.

Armenian GM Tigran L. Petrosian became ICC Chess960 Champion. In the 1/4 Petrosian had a victory over GM I. Sokolov Netherlands (3:0), in the 1/2 over GM Kir. Georgiev, Bulgaria (3:0) and in the final over GM Kamsky, USA (4:2).

Tigran l. Petrosian got the right to participate in Mainz Festival in Germany which will be held on August 15-20, 2007.

Armenian chess player David Zakarian gained 7 points of 9 and shared the 3-9th places in Ikaros Festival, held in Agios Kirykos, Greece. Zakarian stayed behind the winners GMs Shneider (Ukraine) and Zagrebelny (Uzbekistan) only with 0,5 point.

Samvel Ter-Sahakyan's Success
 
Armenian FM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan gained 10,5 points of 14 and won the 1st place on the first board in Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial, held in Moscow, Russia. Another Armenian chess player Vahe Baghdasaryan took the 3rd place on the third board.

Young chess players from eight countries took part in the tournament. The Chinese were the 1st among the teams. Armenian team took the 4th place.

Varuzhan Akobian Wins The World Open
 
Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (California, USA) won the 35th Annual World Open which took place in the Valley Forge Radisson & Convention Plaza, King of Prussia, PA, USA. Akobian had no losses and gained 6,5 of 9. Eight more GMs showed the same result. But Akobian was the best in the playoff. In the final armageddon speed playoff game Akobian won GM Alexander Stripunsky (USA).

92 chess players as well as 36 grandmasters took part in the World Open's main section.

Another Armenian chess player Sevan Toroussian (California, USA) gained 8,5 points of 9 and won the first place in the World Open Under 2000 Section. 236 chess players took part in this tournament.

Armenian GM Gabriel Sargissian takes part in VII Aratovsky Memorial, being held in Saratov, Russia. In the first three rounds Sargissian had victories over GMs Tunik, Yandemirov (both Russia) and ended in a draw with GM Dvoyris (Russia). Now Sargissian has 2,5 points and is behind the leaders - GM Evdokimov and FM Gubajdullin (both Russia) with 0,5 point.
