Pavel Govciyan's victory in Besançon
 

Armenian IM Pavel Govciyan won the first prize at the I'Accession tournament of France Championship. Govciyan gained 9 points of 11.

Another Armenian IM Thierry Manouck took the 18th place with 6,5 points.

80 chess players were participating at the tournament.

Karen Movsziszian at Tarragona tournament
 

Armenian GM Karen Movsziszian gained 6,5 points of 9 and took the 7th place at open tournament held in Tarragona, Spain.

GMs Kevin Spraggett (Canada) and Mircea Parligras (Romania) shared 1-2 places each with 7,5 points.

GM Lputian has suffered in a car accident
 

Armenian GM Smbat Lputian has suffered in a car accident which took place nearby Yerevan. His family members were also in the car. Lputian, his wife, sister and one of the children have got injuries of different degrees.

Now Lputian and his relatives are in one of Yerevan hospitals. According to doctors their state is satisfactory now. It is considered that Smbat Lputian will be discharged from the hospital in 1-2 weeks.

World U-20 Championship's payment deadline
 

The Organizing Committee of World U-20 Juniors & Girls Chess Championships informs all national chess federations that the payment deadline is the September 8, 2006.

Armenian chess players' success in Charleroi
 

Armenian IMs Tigran Gharamian (France) and Mher Hovhanisian (Armenia) gained 7 points of 9 each and shared the 1-6 places with GM Rafael Leitao (Brazil) and some other chess players at the tournament held in Charleroi, Belgium.

129 chess players were participating in the competition.

S. Kasparov at Banyoles Tournament
 

Armenian IM Sergey Kasparov (Belarus) gained 6.5 points of 9 and shared 8-14 places with GM Viktor Korchnoi (Switzerland) and with some other chess players at Rapid Tournament held in Banyoles, Spain.

GM Sergey Fedorchuk (Ukraine) won the first prize with 8 points.

154 chess players were participating in the competition.

European Youth Championship 2006
 

17 Armenian chess players will participate in European Youth Championship (boys and girls U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, U-18) on September 9-20 in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. A group of Armenian coaches will also go to Herceg Novi.

Aleksan Manukian - Armenian Senior's Champion
 

Aleksan Manukian (Gyumri) became Armenian Senior's Champion, 2006. Manukian took the first place in the additional tournament of championship's three winners. IM Eduard Mnatsakanian took the second place and Styopa Balaian took the third place.

Vaganian in the tournament held on the ship
 

Armenian GM Rafael Vaganian will participate in a tournament which will be held on August 28-September 2 on the ship. The ship will make a cruise by Odessa-Istanbul-Odessa route during the days.

GMs Ivanchuk, Tukmakov, Gaprindashvili, Lerner, Palatnik and many other famous chess players will be Vaganian's opponents in this interesting tournament.

Armenian Senior's Championship
 

IM Eduard Mnatsakanian, Styopa Balaian and Aleksan Manukian gained 7 points of 9 each shared the 1-3 places in the Armenian Senior's Championship, 2006.

An additional tournament will be held among them to decide the champion of Armenia.

Kasparov came back with victory
 

Garry Kasparov came back to active chess after 1,5 year's break. The chess event to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Swiss bank Credit Suisse featured Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, Viktor Kortschnoi and Judit Polgar, playing an exhibition blitz tournament in Zurich, Switzerland. It was won by Kasparov and Karpov.

Final Round 6 Standings: 1. Kasparov, Garry g RUS 2812 4.5; 2. Karpov, Anatoly g RUS 2668 4.5; 3. Polgar, Judit g HUN 2710 2.5; 4. Korchnoi, Viktor g SUI 2600 0.5.

Armenian Senior's Championship
 

Armenian Senior's 2006 Championship is being held in Yerevan. 41 chess players are participating at the tournament.

Levon Baghdasarian is leading with 6 points after the 7th round. The former Armenian champions Adolf Demirkhanian and Albert Harutyunov have 5,5 points each. Armenian former champion IM Eduard Mnatsakanian and some other participants have 5 points each.

Two rounds are left before the end of championship.

Anastasian is one of Abu Dhabi Open winners
 

Armenian GM Ashot Anastasian gained 6.5 points of 9 at the tournament held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Anastasian shared the 1-2 places with GM Vugar Gashimov (Azerbaijan).

Armenian GM Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) gained 6 points.

64 chess players were participating at the tournament.

Abrahamyan is Pan American champion
 

Armenian WFM Tatev Abrahamyan (USA) became Pan American champion among girls U18. Abrahamyan gained 9 points of 9 at the championship held in Cuenca, Ecuador.

Another Armenian chess player Maria Sarquis (Argentina) took the second place with 7.5 points.

Danielian's second prize in Athens
 

Armenian WGM Elina Danielian took the second place at women's "Acropolis" tournament held in Athens, Greece. Danielian gained 6.5 points of 9. WGM Salome Melia (Georgia) took the first prize with 7 points.

Armenian GM Tigran Kotanjian gained 6 points in Open tournament and took the 9th place among 68 participants. GM Tamaz Gelashvili (Georgia) took the first prize with 7 points.

Armenian GM Ashot Anastasian is leading before the last round at Abu Dhabi, UAE tournament. Anastasian has 6 points of 8. Anastasian had a victory over GM Rauf Mamedov (Azerbaijan) at the 8th round. Armenian GM Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) had a victory over IM Eltaj Safarli (Azerbaijan). GM Vugar Gashimov (Azerbaijan) also has 6 punts, equal to Anastasian's now.

Anastasian plays with whites against Gashimov at the last round.

Vugar Gashimov (Azerbaijan), Sergey Grigoriants (Russia) and Alexei Fedorov (Belarus) are leading each with 4 points.

The central games of 6th round are Gashimov-Grigoriants, Anastasian-Fedorov.

Armenian GM Rafael Vaganian gained 6.5 points of 9 and took the 14th place among 261 participants in Politiken Cup Tournament which was held in Copenhagen, Denmark.

GMs Vadim Malakhatko (Ukraine), Nigel Short (England) and Jonny Hector ( Sweden) shared 1-3 places each with 7.5 points.

Arutinian third prize in Olomouc
 

Armenian GM David Arutinian took the third place in the main tournament in 9th Olomouc Chess Summer. Arutinian did not have any defeat and gained 7.5 points of 11.

IMs Yuriy Kryvoruchko ( Ukraine) and Konstantin Maslak (Russia) shared 1-2 places each with 8 points.

Armenian IM Andranik Matikozian with IM Enrico Sevillano(USA) tied for first in the 2006 Southern California Championship. The tournament was hold in Los Angeles.

Matikozian did not have any defeat and gained 4.5 points of 7.
