IV Women Chess Supertournament “North Urals Cup – 2006” |

For the fourth year running a small town Krasnoturinsk (Sverdlovsk region), in the north of the Urals becomes a world’s capital of the women’s chess. To participate in the “North Urals Cup – 2006” 10 world’s strongest chess-players are coming on July 22 to go through 9 rounds of win-or-die rivalry to name a winner.
The contenders are:

The double round Scheveningen tournament takes place July 10th-22nd 2006 in Taiyuan, China. Six Chinese and six foreign chess players participate in the tournament. Among the participants is GM Karen Asrian, Armenia. Total prize fund 18000 USD will be distributed according to the individual scores.
In the first round Asrian drew with Zhang Pengxiang.

Three Winners of "Jermouk- 2006" Tournament |

International Youth "Jermouk- 2006" Tournament had three winners. IM Zaven Andriasian, Hrant Melkumyan and Avetik Grigorian gained 7 points of 9.
Andriasian was the first and Melkumyan the second on tie-break. These two chess playes got the right to participate in the International Tournament to commence on 12 July 2006 in Sevan, Armenia.

Further to a decree of President of Nagorno Karabakh Republic, members of the Armenian National Team, Champions of World Chess Olympiad Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Karen Asrian, Smbat Lputian, Gabriel Sargissian, Artashes Minasian, coaches Arshak Petrosian, Tigran Nalbandian received "Gratitude" Medals.
The medals were handed to the chess players by President of NKR Arkadi Ghukasian in Stepanakert.

International Youth Chess Tournament continues in Jermouk, Armenia. 50 chess players from Armenia, Iran and Russia participate in this event.
Armenian chess players are ahead after 4 rounds. Hrant Melkumyan has 4, IM Zaven Andriasian and Avetik Grigorian 3.5 points.
The winner will have the right to participate in "Blue Sevan-2006" tournament that will start on 12 July 2006.

Club "Mika" Yerevan won in the Armenian Women's Club Championship, 2006. WGMs Maia Chiburdanidze, Elina Danielian, Nino Khurtsidze, Nelli Aginian played within the team "Mika", which twice won the "Chess Academy" Club by 2,5:1,5 score.
"Mika" recieved the right to participate in European Club Cup for Women to be held on October 7-15, 2006 in Fuegen, Austria.

A Grandmaster norm tournament in Sevan |

The Armenian Chess Academy organizes a new beautiful event. On July 12, 2006, an International Tournament with a round-robin system starts in the city of Sevan, on the shores of the famous lake.
10 chess players from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Iran will perform at the event.
This GM norm tournament is supposed to be of the 9th rank by FIDE scale.
