Siranush Andriasian is an International Master

 
Armenian chess player Siranush Andriasian has been awarded with a Woman International Master title. FIDE has made such a decision according to the results of the Chisinau Women's Championship.
 
Andriasian is member of the Armenian Women's National Team and will participate in the European Team Championship commencing on July 29, 2005, in Goteborg, Sweden.

Movses Movsisyan - Champion of Oklahoma again

 
The Jerry Spann Memorial and 60th Oklahoma State Championship took place in Norman (Oklahoma, USA). Armenian chess player Movses Movsisyan had 4,5 points of 5 possible, took the first prize and retained the title of Champion of Oklahoma.

Sevag Mekhitarian's second prize

 
Armenian chess player Sevag Mekhitarian from San Paulo took the second place at the Brazil University Championship in Recife (State Pernambuco). Mekhitarian had 5 points out of 7.
 
GM Geovani Vescovi was the winner. Mekhitarian drew his game with Vescovi.

The school is named after Genrikh Kasparian

 
Further to the decision of Government of Armenia, the Yerevan Olympic child chess school will be named after prominent Armenian chess player Genrikh Kasparian (Henrik Gasparian).
 
Kasparian was the first Armenian chess master, the first champion of Armenia, ten-times champion of the country, the first grandmaster of chess composition in the world.

Elina Danielian and Lilit Mkrtchian
won World Championship permits

 
Armenian chess players WGM Elina Danielian and WGM Lilit Mkrtchian performed perfectly at the European Individual Women's Chess Championship held in Chisinau, Moldova, and acquired the right to participate in the World Women's Chess Championship.
 
Danielian had 8,5 points out of 12 possible. After the tie-break she took the 6th place. Mkrtchian took the 9th place with 8 points.
 
Siranush Andriasian finished the tournament with 6,5 points, and WIM Lilit Galojan with 6 points.
 
Several Armenian chess players representing other countries participated in the championship, too. WGM Almira Skripchenko (France), who is the daughter of former Armenian Champion WGM Naira Agababean, had 7,5 points, WGM Katerina Rohonyan and WIM Evgeniya Doluhanova (Ukraine) had 6,5 and Nelli Alexanian (Russia) 6 points. 
 
Skripchenko played successfully in the tie-break and won the permit for the World Women's Championship.
 
The European Champion is WGM Katerina Lahno (Ukraine) who beat WGM Nadezhda Kosintseva (Russia) 2:0 in the tie break.

Sergei Movsesian is Champion
of Bosnia and Herzegovina

 
Armenian chess players Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) has become already a second European Champion this year. Several weeks ago Sergei and his spouse Petra Movsesianova were among winners at the Czech Team Championship. And now Movsesian, in the composition of the "Bosna" club (Sarajevo), becomes Champion of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

European Men's Championship in Warsaw

 
Armenian chess players Levon Aronian, Smbat Lputian, Ashot Anastasian, Karen Asrian, Gabriel Sargissian, Tigran Nalbandian, Tigran L. Petrosian, Artashes Minasian and Levon Babujian left for Warsaw (Poland) on June 17 for participating in the European Individual Men's Chess Championship 2005.
 
Before their departure President of Armenian Chess Federation, Minister of Defense of Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsian had a meeting with the players.

"Ararat's" sensational victory

 
Three more rounds are played in the Iran Team Championship. The Armenian "Ararat" Club (Tehran) ended its matches with the "Jilan" and "Naftejanoub" teams 2:2, and then beat "Sypa" 2,5:1,5. This was a real sensation since "Sypa" is totally composed of Iran National Team members.
 
After five rounds "Ararat" takes the 5th place among 12 teams with 11 points. The leader team is "Hormozdan" (15 points).

Chouchanik Airapetian is a FIDE Master

 
Armenian chess player Chouchanik Airapetian (USA) has received a FIDE Women Master title.
 
Airapetian is the second Armenian chess player in the States who is honored with this title. Young Tatev Abrahamyan from California is a WFM, too.

Hamlet Toumanian leads the Iran national teams

 
Armenian chess player Hamlet Toumanian (Tehran) was appointed as head of all the Iranian national chess teams (men's, women's, children).
 
FM Toumanian is at the same time participating in the Iran Team Championship as member of Tehran "Ararat" Club.

Varuzhan Akobian and Henrik Pashayan won in Las Vegas

 
Several Armenian chess players took part in the National Open Festival 2005 held in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
 
In the main open GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) took the 6th place with 4,5 points out of 6. The 1st-4th places were shared between GM Nick De Firmian, GM Benjamin Finegold, GM Dmitry Gurevich, GM Dashzeveg Sharavdorj (USA) with 5 points. After playoff Gurevich was the one to take the first place.
 
In the U2200 tournament, the first prize went to Henrik Pashayan (Armenia) with 5 points.
 
In the blitz tournament Akobian was the winner with 12,5 points out of 14 possible. IM Andranik Matikozian (Armenia) was the third with 10 points.

Achievements of Aleppo Armenian chess players

 
Armenian girl chess players Arda Sevan Ghazelian, Talar Tanashian (5th form), and Patil Tootoonjian (6th form) took the first prizes in the Aleppo Scholastic Championship (Syria).
 
In the boys championship, Garo Garabedian took the second, and Norig Der Tavitian and Antony Berejiklian the third places, each in his age group.

Vladimir Akopian trains the Qatar chess players

 

Armenian top GM Vladimir Akopian joins his practical performances with training activities. He is in Qatar now and helps best chess players of this country, in particular GM Mohamad Al-Modiahki and his spouse, World Woman Ex-Champion Zhu Chen (China) who presently resides in Qatar.

 

Akopian has valuable training experience; he was one of the consultants of Peter Leko in the latter's match with Vladimir Kramnik.

The "Ararat" Club in the Iran Team Championship

 

The "Ararat" Armenian Club of Tehran participates in the Iran Team Championship 2005. "Ararat" beat "Gyachsaran" with 2,5:1,5 and drew with "Rahan" 2:2. After two rounds "Ararat" shares 3rd-6th places with 4,5 points.

 

IM Arman Pashikian, Hrant Melkumian (Yerevan, Armenia), Hamlet Tumanian, Gegham Movsisian, Arbi Khachatrian, Suren Khechumian (Tehran, Iran) compose the "Ararat" Club.

Movses Movsisyan the fifth in Stillwater

 

Armenian chess player, Champion of Oklahoma, USA, Movses Movsisyan took the fifth place in the 24th OCF North American Open held in Stillwater, USA.

 

Movsisyan took 6,5 points out of 9. GM Alexander Onishchuk (USA) won in the tournament with 7,5 points. In total, 61 chess players participated in the event.

Andranik Matikozian took first place in Los Angeles

 

IM Andranik Matikozian (Armenia) took first place in the 2005 Lina Grumette Memorial Day Classic, held May 28-30 at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles.

 

Matikozian finished with 5,5 points out of 6. Another Armenian IM Melikset Khachiyan (USA) took the forth place with 4,5 points.

 

In total 51 chess players participated in the tournament.

Zaven Andriasian - Rapid Chess Champion of Armenia

 

15 year-old Zaven Andriasian became Champion of Armenian Rapid Chess Championship. The event was held in Yerevan. This was the 7th Rapid Championship of Armenia. Up to now GM Levon Aronian (3 times), GM Tigran L. Petrosian (2 times), and IM Davit G. Petrosian have been Rapid Chess Champions of Armenia.

Lilit Mkrtchian achieved Nona Gaprindashivili’s Cup

 

Lilit Mkrtchian, the Armenian Women’s Champion, achieved  Nona Gaprindashivili’s Cup in Tbilisi, Georgia. 16 chess players participated in knock out Rapid Tournament. Among them were Maia Chiburdanidze, Nana Ioseliani, Nino Gurieli, Rusudan Goletiani, Nino Khurtsidze, Ketino Arakhamia-Grant, etc.

 

Lilit Mkrtchian won the matches over Nino Gurieli, Nana Dzagnidze, Nana Ioseliani and in the final match over Inga Charkhalashivi. The Cup was handed over to Mkrtchian by Nona Gaprindashivili.
