Golden Commemorative Coin in Honor of Armenia's Victory
 
The Central Bank of Armenia put in circulation a commemorative golden coin, in honor of the victory of Armenian chess players at the 37th World Chess Olympiad in Turin, 2006. The nominal price of the coin amounts to AMD 10000. The coin is made of 9000 standard gold, with 22 mm diameter and 8,6 g weight.
Along the edges of the coin can be read names of the chess players representing Armenian team at the Olympiad -
L. Aronian, V. Akopian, K. Asrian, G. Sargissian, S. Lputian, A. Minasian.

Ashot Nadanian in Singapore Tournament
 
Armenian IM Ashot Nadanian has 4 points of 6 in the 3rd Open held in Singapore. Nadanian is staying behind the leaders: GMs Zhang Pengxiang, Zhao Jun, Zhang Zhong, Wang Hao and Li Shilong (all China) with one point.

95 chess players are taking part in the tournament.

Zaven Andriasian Was Gifted Grandmasters Title
 

FIDE has given the rank of grandmaster to World U20 Chess Champion Zaven Andriasian.

Zaven Andriasian who is 17 years old is the youngest Armenian grandmaster and one of the youngest world grandmasters now.

Ashot Nadanian in Singapore Tournament
 
Armenian IM Ashot Nadanian is taking part in the 3rd Singapore Masters International Open Tournament, 2006. It has very strong participants. Especially, known GMs like Zhang Pengxiang, Wang Hao, Ni Hua, Zhang Zhong are playing.

Nadanian had a victory over IM Chandrashekhar Gokhale (India) in the first round.

Corus Tournament. Games Online
 
Armenian GMs Levon Aronian and Gabriel Sargissian will take part in the Corus tournament in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands on 12th-28th January 2007.

We present the lists of the two groups.

A Group:
Kramnik, Topalov, Anand, Svidler, Aronian, Radjabov, Shirov, Ponomariov, Carlsen, Tiviakov, Van Wely, Karjakin, Motylev, Navara.

B Group:
Jakovenko, Bu Xiangzhi, Sargissian, Eljanov, Nijboer, L’Ami, Atalik, Vachier-Lagrave, Stellwagen, Werle, V.Georgiev, Smeets, T. Kosintseva, Bologan.

Vladimir Akopian's Team in Asian Games
 
Armenian GM Vladimir Akopian is the coach of Qatar Chess National Team for already three years. Akopian's team participated in the 15th Asian Games in Doha and took the 6th place among the 21 teams.

India Chess National Team won the Asian Games.

Aronian is the Best Sportsman, Armenian Chess Team is the best Team
 
GM Levon Aronian has been recognized as the number one sportsman of Armenia, 2006. World U20 champion Zaven Andriasian is one of the best ten sportsmen of the year.

Olimpic Champion Armenian Chess Team has been recognized as the number one sport team of Armenia, 2006. Eurocup winner Women Club Mika-Yerevan is the second among the best sport teams.

Andriasian had a Victory over Ismagambetov in the Match
 
Armenian chess player Zaven Andriasian had a victory over IM Anuar Ismagambetov (Kazakhstan) with score 2,5:1,5 in the match held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The match was dedicated to the 15th anniversary of Kazakhstan Independence.

Armenian chess player Zaven Andriasian had a victory over IM Anuar Ismagambetov in the second game of the match held in Astana. After two classical games Andriasian wins with score is 1,5:0,5.

Today the competitors will have two rapid games.

Andriasian-Ismagambetov Match
 
On December 18, 2006 the match between Armenian chess player, World U20 Champion Zaven Andriasian and Kazakhstan Olimpique Team Member, IM Anuar Ismagambetov has started in Astana, Kazakhstan. The first game where Andriasian was playing in blacks ended in a draw. Today the second game will take place.

Varuzhan Akobian in Manila Tournament
 
Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) gained 6,5 points of 9 and took the 4th place in the 1st President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Cup held in Manila, Philippines.

The first prize went to Zhang Pengxiang (China) who gained 7,5 points.

73 chess players were taking part in the tournament.

The match between Armenian chess player, World U20 Champion Zaven Andriasian and Kazakhstan Olimpique Team Member, IM Anuar Ismagambetov has started today in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Six Years Old Chess Player's Success
 
Armenian chess player Samvel Sevian (residing in Florida) who will turn 6 years old on December 26, took a clear second place in the K-section of US National Scholastic Chess Championship held in Orlando, Florida.

Levon Aronian has refused from the Odessa Tournament
 
Armenian GM Levon Aronian who is preparing for the great event in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands starting on January 12, 2007, has refused from the participation in the 1st ACP World Rapid Cup which will be held on January 4-8 in Odessa, Ukraine.

World champion Vladimir Kramnik has also refused from the participation in Odessa Tournament.

Mika Chess Club in Yerevan
 
Mika Chess Club has been opened in Yerevan, the president of which is a well known businessman Mikael Baghdasarov.

The Club's first Open Championship came to its end and the first prize went to IM Beniamin Galstian.

Vaganian's Team is the Leader of Bundesliga
 
Armenian GM Rafael Vaganian who plays on the first board of Porz Club in German Bundesliga, had a victory over GM Zoltan Gyimesi.

Porz and Baden Baden Clubs are the leaders of Bundesliga after 7 rounds.

Karen Movsziszina's New Success
 
Armenian GM Karen Movsziszian had a new achievement in the tournaments held in Spain. He gained 7 points of 9 and shared 1-7 places with GMs Korneev (Russia), Campora (Argentina), IMs Ibarra, Rodriguez, Pomes (all Spain) and Koziak (Ukraine) in the 1st Granada International Open.

147 chess players, especially GMs Andersson (Sweden), Conquest (England), Suba (Romania), Djuric (Serbia) took part in the tournament.

Karen Movsziszian's Success
 
Armenian GM Karen Movsziszian gained 6 points of 7 and shared 1-3 places with GM Davor Komljenovic (Croatia) and IM Luis Campos Gambuti (Spain) at Rapid Tournament held in Castalla, Spain.

76 chess players were taking part at the tournament.

Andriasian's Opponent has Changed
 
Armenian chess player World U20 Champion Zaven Andriasian's opponent of December 17-21 match in Astana, Kazakhstan has changed. Andriasian will play not with GM Sadvakasov but with Kazakhstan Olimpique Team Member, IM Anuar Ismagambetov (elo 2418).

Armenian Chess Players in Aeroflot Open
 
Armenian chess players always actively and successfully participate in great International Chess Festival Aeroflot Open held in Moscow, Russia. The next festival will be held on February 13-23, 2007.

Olimpique Champions Karen Asrian, Gabriel Sargissian, Artashes Minasian, GMs Ashot Anastasian, Tigran L. Petrosian, Tigran Nalbandian, Arsen Yeghiazarian, Tigran Kotanjian, Ara Minasian, World U20 Champion Zaven Andriasian and other Armenian chess players have already confirmed their participation.

Deep Fritz had a Victory over the World Champion
 
The match between world champion Vladimir Kramnik and computer program Deep Fritz came to its end in Bonn, Germany. Deep Fritz won with score 4:2. Download PGN

Armenian Chess Players at Saratov Tournament
 
Armenian IM Arman Pashikian gained 6,5 points of 9 and shared the 3rd place in Aratovski Memorial held in Saratov, Russia. Pashikian was behind the winners GMs Boris Savchenko and Konstantin Chernyshov (both Russia) only with 0,5 points.

GM Gabriel Sargissian gained 5,5 points and young chess player Aghasi Inants 5 points.

Armenian GM Segei Movsesian (Slovakia) gained 6,5 points of 9 and took the 2nd place at the tournament held in Solin, Croatia. WGM Lilit Mkrtchian gained 3 points.

The first prize went to GM Vladimir Malakhov (Russia) with 7 points.

Armenian IM Arman Pashikian had a victory over GM Aleksej Aleksandrov (Belarus) in Aratovski Memorial held in Saratov, Russia. Pashikian has 6 points before the last round and is staying behind GMs Dmitry Kryakvin and Boris Savchenko (both Russia) only with 0,5 point.

GM Gabriel Sargssian has 4,5 and Aghasi Inants has 4 points.

Pashikian will play with IM Marat Askarov (Russia) in the last 9th round.

Melikset Khachiyan had a Victory in American Open
 
Armenian GM Melikset Khachiyan (USA) gained 6 points of 8 and conquered the first prize at the American Open held in Los Angeles, USA.

51 chess players were taking part at the tournament.

Another Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) gained 5 points of 5 and won in the Blitz Tournament held in the framework of American Open.

Armenian Chess Players at Solin Tournament
 
Armenian WGM Lilit Mkrtchian won GM Kurajica (Croatia) in the 7th round at 14th International Grandmaster Tournament held in Solin. Mkrtchian has 2,5 points.

Another Armenian GM Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia) is going to stay on the 2nd place. Now he has 5 points. GM Malakhov (Russia) has 5,5 points and is the leader.
