World U20 Championships' Newspaper |

FIDE President, the President of Republic of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was in Armenia on October 16-17. He came to Yerevan to take part in World Juniors and Girls Championships' closing ceremony.

World U20 Championship fnished |

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and World Juniors Champion Zaven Andriasian.
World Juniors and Girls Championships 2006 came to its end in Yerevan, Armenia. 17 years old chess players Zaven Andriasian (Armenia) and Shen Yang (China) became world junior and girl champions.
Andriasian the clear winner of the first place, will obtain GM norm according to FIDE Regulations. He also got the right of participation in World Chess Cup.
Shen Yang shared the 1-4 places but was the first according to the tie-break. She will take part in World Women Championship.
Nikita Vitiugov (Russia) was the 2nd prize winner and Yuriy Kryvoruchko (Ukraine) the 3rd in juniors tournament.
12 years old Hou Yifan (China) was the 2nd and Salome Melia (Georgia) was the 3rd in girls tournament.
17 chess players fulfilled International Norms in the Championships.
The closing ceremony of World U20 Championships took place on October 16 in Yerevan Chess House after Tigran Petrosian. FIDE President, President of Republic of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Armenian Chess Federation President, Minister of Defence of Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsian presented medals and awards to the prize winners.
Championships participants and guests say goodbye to Armenia. Many of them will return to Yerevan next year. Here will take place World Juniors and Girls Championships 2007.

Mika conquered European Club Cup! |

Armenian Mika Yerevan team won European Woman Club Cup 2006. Maia Chiburdanidze, Elina Danielian, Nino Khurtsidze and Nelly Aginian brought the great success. Mika gained 12 points of 14 and took the first place at the tournament held in Fuegen, Austria.
Armenian team ended the match with Southern Ural Cheliabinsk (Russia) with score 2:2 in the last round. All the four games ended in a draw. Georgian club Energy-Investi Sakartvelo which was on the second place also ended the match with score 2:2.
Bank King won Siroki Brijeg (Bosnia-Herzegovina) with score 3,5:2,5. Vaganian, Anastasian won, Asrian, Art. Minasian, T.L. Petrosian ended in a draw, Yegiazarian lost. Bank King took the 11th place among 56 teams. European Cup went to Tomsk-400 (Russia).

Mika Yerevan team really pretends to European Woman Club Cup. Mika has 11 points of 12 and is the leader before the last round in Tournament held in Fuegen, Austria. Except Armenian Club one more team continues the struggle for the victory. It is Energy-Investi Sakartvelo (Georgia) which stays behind Mika with 1 point.
Mika wonderfully won Herzliya Chess Club (Israel) in the 6th round with score 3,5:0,5. Elina Danielian, Nino Khurtsidze, Nelly Aginian won, Maia Chiburdanidze ended in a draw.
Mika will play with Southern Ural Cheliabinsk (Russia) and Energy-Investi Sakartvelo with Economist SGSEU Saratov (Russia) in the last 7th round.
Bank King men team lost to Ashdod City Club (Israel) in the 6th round with score 2:4. Art. Minasian won, Vaganian, T.L. Petrosian, Yegiazarian lost, Asrian and Anastasian ended in a draw.
Bank King has 8 points and is on the 16th place among 56 teams. Four Russian and one French Clubs share 1-5 places each with 10 points. Bank King will play with Siroki Brijeg (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in the last round.

Armenian GM Tigran L. Petrosian continues his excellent playing in European Club Cup held in Fuegen, Austria. He played with GM Smirnov (Tomsk-400, Russia) in the 5th round and had the fifth victory. Armenian Bank King team's match with Tomsk-400 ended with score 3:3. Except Petrosian, Lputian also won, Art. Minasian and Anastasian ended in a draw, Asrian and Vaganian lost. Bank King has 8 points and shares 3-9 places after the 5 rounds. Ural Sverdlovskaya and Ladya Kazan clubs are leading with 6 points each. Armenian champion Mika team continuous to be the first in European Women Club Cup held in Fuegen, Austria. Mika ended in a draw (2:2) with Energy-Investi Sakartvelo (Georgia) Club. GM Chiburdanidze won, WGMs Khurtsidze and Aginian ended in a draw and WGM Danielian lost. Mika has 7 points after four rounds.
Our men Bank King team also plays successfully. Armenian chess players won Gros Xake Taldea (Spain) with score 4:2 in the fourth round.GMs Asrian, Vaganian, Lputian, Anastasian ended in a draw, GMs Art. Minasian and T.L. Petrosian won. Tigran L. Petrosian achieved an excellent result: 4 points of 4!

Armenian teams continue their successful play in European Club Cup held in Fuegen, Austria.
Women Mika Club had the third victory in the third round this time leaving behind Chess Club Podgorica (Montenegro) with score 2,5:1,5. WGM Nino Khurtsidze won, GM Maia Chiburdanidze, WGMs Elina Danielian and Nelly Aginian ended in a draw. Mika is the only leader with 6 points after three rounds.
Men Bank King team ended the match with very strong club Ural Sverdlovskaya (Russia) with score 3:3. GM Tigran L. Petrosian won, GM Artashes Minasian lost, GMs Karen Asrian, Smbat Lputian, Rafael Vaganian and Ashot Anastasian ended in a draw. Now Bank King has 5 points and falls behind the leaders only with one point.
Tigran Petrosian and Nino Khurtsidze have won all the three rounds.
