Armenian GM Sergey Galdunts performed excellently at a tournament held in Walldorf, Germany. With no loss and 7,5 points of 9 he solely took the first prize. Galdunts was ahead of his nearest opponents Emmanuel Amigues (France) with 1,5 and Vladimir Gurevich (Ukraine) with 2 points.

The 37th World Chess Olympiad will commence on May 20, in Turin, Italy. Today the Armenian National Men's and Women's Teams started their concluding preparations for this greatest event at the resort town of Jermouk, Armenia.

Besides Zaven Andriasian, four more Armenian chess players, Avetik Grigoryan, Gevorg Harutjunyan, Arman Hayrapetian, Artur Margarian, played successfully at the qualification tournaments of the Open Internet Blitz Cup and are now entitled to participate in the final to be held on May 10, 2006.
Moreover, the "Apocalypse" club composed of Armenian players performed well at the team tournament of this event and also conquered the right to play in the final which will be held on May 6, 2006. |

Young Armenian IM Zaven Andriasian conquered first prizes at two qualification tournaments of the Open Internet Blitz Cup dedicated to the 50-year jubilee of the Chess House named after M. Botvinnik for the prizes of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
On May 10, Andriasian will participate in the final tournament. Chess players from 50 countries will perform at the event. |

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran L. Petrosian had great achievements at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum's Cup. They had no loss, gained 7 points of 9 and shared the 1st-3rd places with GM Sergey Fedorchuk (Ukraine).
Another Armenian GM Ashot Anastasian also ended the tournament with no loss and was behind the winners with half a point. 142 chess players took part at the event. |

Armenian GM Vladimir Akopian became Russian Champion within the composition of the "Ural" team at the Russian Club Championship which ended in Dagomis, Sochi.
GM Levon Aronian, who performed at the "Tomsk-400" team, conquered the bronze medal. WGM Lilit Mkrtchian's team, the "Yuzhni Ural", was the second at the Russian Women's Club Championship. The Armenian teams "Chess Academy" and "Mika" had great success at the Russian Youth Open Club Championship. The teams took the second and third places respectively and are now entitled to participate in the European School Team Championship to be held in July 2006, in Hungary. |
