Armenian chess players' games online at Dubai Open
 
The 8th Open Tournament is held from April 23 to May 2, 2006, in Dubai, UAE. The participants are competing for the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum's Cup.

Armenian GMs Gabriel Sargissian, Tigran L. Petrosian, Ashot Anastasian are playing in the event.

Armenian chess players at Russian Club Championship
 
Armenian Grandmasters Levon Aronian, Vladimir Akopian, Karen Asrian, Smbat Lputian, Lilit Mkrtchian, Naira Movsisian, as well as Sergei Movsesian (Slovenia), Sergei Grigoriants, Artur Gabrielian (Russia) participate in the Russian Club Championship within different clubs. The event is held from April 20 to 30, 2006, in Dagomis, Sochi (Russia).

Tigran Gyozalyan is a FIDE trainer
 
The FIDE Presidential Board awarded Tigran Gyozalyan (Armenia) with a FIDE Trainer title in its meeting in Al Ain in UAE.

Gyozalyan's students have had great achievements at world and European youth championships. Now Gyozalyan realizes training activities in Singapore.

Naira Movsisian is a Grandmaster
 
The FIDE Presidential Board awarded Naira Movsisian with a WGM title in its meeting in Al Ain in UAE. After Elina Danielian, Lilit Mkrtchian, Nelly Aginian, Naira is the forth Armenian woman who is honored with this high title.

Levon Babujian is an International Master
 
Another Armenian chess player received a new title at the FIDE PB meeting in Al Ain. Levon Babujian was awarded with an IM title.

Hrair Simonian fulfilled an IM norm
 
Armenian young chess player Hrair Simonian fulfilled an IM norm at the VIII Rector Cup held in Kharkov, Ukraine. Simonian had no loss at 11 games, gained 6 points and took the 4th place.

The first prize-winner was GM Zubarev (Ukraine) with 7,5 points.

Lilit Mkrtchian - bronze medal-holder at European Championship!
 

Armenian WGM Lilit Mkrtchian took the bronze medal at the 7th European Individual Women's Chess Championship 2006 held in Kusadasi, Turkey. Lilit gained 7,5 points of 11 and shared the 3rd-11th places, but won at tie-break matches and took the third place.

Mkrtchian is now entitled to participate at the next World Women's Championship.

Tigran Kotanjian fulfilled a Grandmaster norm
 
Armenian IM Tigran Kotanjian gained 6 points of 11 and fulfilled a GM norm at the 7th European Individual Chess Championship 2006, Kusadasi, Turkey.

This is the second time the young player succeeds during a month. The first GM norm was fulfilled at the Armenian Championship three weeks ago.

Armenian chess players at the European Championship
 
From April 4 to 17, 2006, the 7th European Men's and Women's Individual Chess Championships are held in Aydin, Kusadasi (Turkey). Armenian chess players GMs Artashes Minasian, Ashot Anastasian, Tigran L. Petrosian, IMs Arman Pashikian, Tigran Kotanjian, WGMs Lilit Mkrtchian, Elina Danielian, Nelli Aginian, WIM Siranush Andriasian participate in this event.

Games available online every day starting from 17:00 (Yerevan time)

Sergei Movsesian's achievement at Bundesliga
 
Armenian chess player GM Sergei Movsesian (Slovakia), in the composition of the "OSC Baden Baden" club, took the title of the Champion of German Team Championship (Bundesliga). In many of the matches Movsesian gained decisive points for his team.

Such famous Grandmasters as Anand, Svidler, Shirov, Valejo Pons and others also play for the "OSC Baden Baden" club.

Sergey Kasparov's play in Frascati
 
Armenian chess player IM Sergey Kasparov (Belarus) gained 5,5 points of 9 and took the forth place at the tournament held in Frascati, Italy.

The first prize-holder was GM Branko Damljanovic (Serbia-Montenegro) with 7 points.

At the tournament there were also chess players from Hungary, Ukraine, Albania, Italy.

Arman Hayrapetian fulfilled an IM norm
 
Armenian chess player Arman Hayrapetian fulfilled for the first time an International Master norm at the "I&A Club Cup" tournament held in Tbilisi. Hayrapetian gained 7,5 points of 11 and shared the 2nd-3rd places with FM Davit Jojua (Georgia).

The winner of the tournament was IM Beglar Jobava (Georgia) with 8 points.

Levon Aronian is the world's 3rd chess player
 
FIDE has published International Rating List of chess players by April 1, 2006. http://www.fide.com/ratings/

Armenian GM Levon Aronian (2756) is now the 3rd player in the world after Veselin Topalov (2804) and Vishvanatan Anand (2803).

Among the world's top 100 chess players are Vladimir Akopian (2706), Karen Asrian (2646), Smbat Lputian (2619), as well as Armenian player from Slovakia Sergei Movsesian (2618).

Among the world's top 50 women chess players are Lilit Mkrtchian (2453) and Elina Danielian (2422).

FIDE has also announced the new average ratings of FIDE member countries. Armenia is the 5th among 140 countries. The top ten are:
