27-Jan-2015 Sergey Kasparov in Algeria
 
Armenian GM Sergey Kasparov (Belarus) scored 5,5 points out of 7 and shared 1st-7th places among 70 participants at the open that was held in Bejaia, Algeria. By the tie-break Kasparov took the 4th place. The winner of the tournament was GM Jure Borisek (Slovenia).
 
26-Jan-2015 Sevag Mekhitarian – Bronze Medal Holder
 
Armenian GM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian scored 7,5 points out of 11 and took the third prize in the Brazilian Championship that was held in Joao Pessoa.

The champion with 9,5 points was GM Rafael Leitao.

13-Jan-2015 Ashot Vardapetysn’s 60th Anniversary
 

Vice President of the Armenian Chess Federation, Chairman of the FIDE Rules and Tournament Regulations Commission, Chairman of the ECU Arbiters’ Commission IA Ashot Vardapetyan became 60 years old. On the occasion of the anniversary as well as for the unique services in the field of physical culture and sport Vardapetyan was awarded with the gold medal of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. National Olympic Committee of Armenia awarded Vardapetyan with Albert Azaryan Medal.

On the occasion of the anniversary FIDE President Kirsan Illyumzhinov sent a congratulatory letter to Vardapetyan.

We also congratulate IA Ashot Vardapetyan.

In a few days after the end of Tata Steel, on February 2-9, 2015 Levon Aronian will take part in a great tournament in Baden-Baden, Germany.

Aronian’s rivals will be Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand, Fabiano Caruana, Michael Adams, Etienna Bacrot, Arkadij Naiditch, David Baramidze.

22-year-old Armenian chess player IM Vahe Baghdasaryan fulfilled Grandmaster Norm at the tournament that was held in Groningen, Netherlands.

Armenian GM Tigran Gharamian (France) scored 6,5 points out of 9 and took the third prize among 54 participants at the open that was held in Nancy, France. Gharamian was only half a point behind IM Dennis Wagner (Germany) and GM Sergey Fedorchuk (Ukraine).
 
8-Jan-2015 Edgar Karagyozian’s Success
 
Armenian chess player Edgar Karagyozian scored 7 points out of 9 and took the third prize among 96 participants at the open that was held in Lyon, France. Karagyozian was only half a point behind the winner – IM Yohan Benitah (France).

A four-time Tata Steel Winner GM Levon Aronian again is going to participate in the main tournament of that traditional festival to be held in January 10-25, 2015 in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

The rivals of Aronian will be GMs Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Fabiano Caruana (Italy), Anish Giri (Netherlands), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France), Wesley So (USA), Ding Liren (China), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan), Ivan Saric (Croatia), Hou Yifan (China), Loek Van Wely (Netherlands), Baadur Jobava (Georgia) and Radoslaw Wojtaszek (Poland).

14-year-old GM Samuel Sevian (USA) will play in the B tournament of the festival.
