5th WORLD CHESS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

FROM THE TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS

Scoring
Each team's place in the order of classification will be decided by the number of game points it has scored. If any teams finish with equal game points, the tie shall be resolved as follows:
1. By match points (won match = 1 point, drawn match = 1/2 point);
2. If a tie again results, the scores obtained by the tying teams against each other will decide;
3. If a tie again results, it shall be decided by board count (Berlin System) as follows:
a win on Board 1 4 points
a win on Board 2 3 points
a win on Board 3 2 points
a win on Board 4 1 point
In case of drawn games these points are shared.
4. If the board-count results in no victory for either side then the board points of Board 4 are cancelled and so on upwards until the tie is broken.
5. If a tie still results between teams in contention for medals, these teams shall play a match against each other at a fast time-rate (15 minutes per player for the entire game);
6. If this match is undecided, lots shall be drawn.

Trophy
The winning team in the World Chess Team Championship shall receive a special trophy.
The Federation of the winning team shall keep the trophy, which is the property of FIDE, until the next World Chess Team Championship.
The trophy is to be competed for at each successive championship; it cannot be acquired in perpetuity.
The dates of the tournament and the name of the winning Federation are to be engraved on the base of the trophy. Should the original trophy be lost, a replacement is to be made on the same pattern.
The winning Federation of the tournament, and the names of its players, shall be recorded in the FIDE Golden Book, of which the President has custody.

Chess Medals
Every member of the winning team (players, reserve and captain) shall receive a gold medal. Similarly, the team finishing second shall receive silver medals and team in third place bronze medals.

Individual Prizes
Players assigned to the same board number in their respective team lists will be in competition with each other for individual board medals (gold, silver, bronze). For the purpose of this award, the players' percentage scores from their games will be compared.
Only the following will be eligible for board prizes:
· players numbered 1 - 4 who take part in at least 5 games;
· players numbered 5 - 6 who take part in at least 4 games.

Certificates
After the end of the championship, the Federations of the teams finishing first, second and third will be sent certificates by the President, recording the success of their teams and the medals they have won.


1. Venue and Dates of the Start and Finish of the Championship

5th World Chess Team Championship will be held from October 11 (arrival) to October 21 (departure), 2001, in the building of Yerevan Opera House located in the very heart of the capital of Armenia.


2. Participating Teams

The following national teams will participate in the championship: Russian, Germany, Ukraine (three highest placed at 2000 World Chess Olympiad), Hungary (from Europe), Uzbekistan (Asia Continental Champion), Cuba (America Continental Champion), African Continental Team, Armenia (organizing federation), Iran, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia/FYROM (invited teams).


3. Composition of Teams

Each team includes 4 players, 2 reserves and 1 Chief of the delegation. Total 7 persons.


4. Board and Lodging

The participants and accompanying persons (coaches, journalists, etc.) will be accommodated at one of the best hotels of Yerevan, Ani Plaza Hotel. The organizers will provide free hotel rooms with three meals a day to all participants. Free board and lodging will be provided from October 11, 12:00 at noon to October 21, 12:00 at noon. 5. Tournament Regulations

System of play: all-play-all (single-round matches). The time limit according to FIDE decision.


6. Chief Arbiter, Appeals Committee

Chief Arbiter of the championship is International Arbiter Geurt Gijssen.
Members of the Appeals Committee are Continental President (Europe) Boris Kutin, FIDE Executive Director Emmanuel Omuku, President of the Chess Federation I. R. of Iran, President of FIDE Zone 3.1a Mohammad Jafar Kambozia.

8. Transportation

The traveling expenses of the participants and accompanying persons shall be covered by their national federations.
Free bus transportation will be provided from Yerevan Airport to the residences.
There are airlines available connecting Yerevan directly with many cities of the world: Aleppo, Amsterdam, Athens, Beirut, Cairo, Dubai, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Moscow, Paris, St. Petersburg, Sofia, Tbilisi, Tehran, Vienna, Zurich, etc.


9. Visas

In case of necessity of obtaining an Armenian entry visa, please provide the Organizing Committee with your passport number and date of birth in advance.


10. Information

Each participant is entitled to one free bulletin per round.
The championship will be covered in Internet, on the official Armenian Chess Federation and “Chess in Armenia” Magazine website at www.armchess.am.


11. Organizing Committee

Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the World Team Championship is Mr. Vanik Zakarian, FIDE Honorary Vice President.
General Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the World Team Championship is Mr. Gaguik Oganessian, President of FIDE Zone 1.5, Chairman of CHIPS Committee, FIDE.
